Twelve years ago, Lyse and her brother Richard boughtย this property from Sophie Grรฉgoire Trudeauโs father, notย knowing it would one day become their home year-round.ย The magnificent property located in Sainte-Adรจle in theย very private Domaine Deauville was initially an investmentย for Lyse and Richard. It has now become a shared dwellingย for her, her brother and his wife, as well as their dog. Theย home has served as an anchor for the family and helped itsย inhabitants nurture close ties.
โMy father would often remind me of how taking onย projects with my brother would be the only way to maintainย our bond,โ Lyse recalls. When her parents passed away,ย days apart from one another, she decided with her brotherย Richard to purchase the property, along with the hundred-ย acre virgin forest surrounding the home, bordering a privateย lake. โRichard loves nature and the great outdoors. He wasย looking to set up bicycle paths and cross-country ski trails,ย which he would share with anyone living nearby.โ As timeย passed, what was originally planned as an investment endedย up turning into a home base for both owners. Since theyย often travelled abroad, they decided a shared residenceย would be the way to go. โWe built our lives around ourย respective trips and even adopted a dog in joint custody,โย says Lyse, laughing.
A HARMONIOUS SHARED SPACE
For business purposes, the clothing designer then moved toย Asia for a few years. Later on, two years ago, she returnedย to Quebec to settle down. The home in Sainte-Adรจle provedย to be the best option. Its two storeys were designed asย separate apartments, making it perfect for the two siblingsย to both move in under the same roof while maintainingย their private lives. โMy brother and his spouse live in the loftย on the second floor, and my apartment is on the first. Weย always end up together in the living room or kitchen, evenย on Valentineโs Day!โย Lyse and her brother, both interior dรฉcor aficionados,ย enlarged all the windows in the house. They built a verandaย alongside the master bedroom and kitchen so they couldย enjoy the fresh air up until fall while being protected fromย the elements. The floors were also painted white, whichย gave the space a distinguished look and enhanced itsย luminosity.
A WORKSHOP AND APARTMENT IN ONE
On the four-acre lot, there is a small century-old houseย adjoining the main residence that had been abandoned by its former owners. Lyse and her brother, who both haveย a soft spot for old homes, decided to renovate it whileย preserving its charm. โWe converted it into a workshop.ย Since I work with colour, I need light. So, we opened upย the walls and redid all the windows. However, we left theย floors and fireplace intact,โ says Lyse. She goes on toย say, โIronically, the place used to be a smoking room forย businessmen, barred to women. Yet today, it belongs to me,ย and I use it to sew clothing for women!โ During weekends,ย the cleverly designed space turns into an apartment forย hosting friends.ย Although Lyse and her brother have struck a perfectย balance with this home located in Sainte-Adรจle, they areย currently looking for new owners who, like them, have anย unconditional love for beautiful homes. The siblings stillย have many more dreams to turn into realities…together, ofย course!
